Poison is the New Black by Chelsea Field | Review

Chelsea Field is back, with another Eat, Pray, Die Humorous Mystery!

The Blurb

When Mr. Black becomes the top suspect in a murder investigation, Isobel Avery is roped into helping Etta, her Glock, and her greyhound clear his name.

Except her boyfriend Connor is warning her to stay out of it, the new client she’s protecting from poison threats requires her full attention, and oh yeah, Izzy thinks Mr. Black might be guilty… He did once try to beat her to a pulp after all.

To make matters worse, Etta and Izzy aren’t the only ones digging in to this case, and the other parties are a whole lot more dangerous. And if Mr. Black didn’t do it, then the real killer is still out there and might not appreciate their interference.

As Izzy struggles to make sure the right bad guy goes to prison, find her footing in her new romantic relationship, and integrate herself into her client’s alien world of high-society ladies — the same world the victim is from — she’d better watch out for poisons, vengeance, and firebombs.

Curried Away by Gail Oust | Blog Tour with Review, Guest Post, and Giveaway

curried-away-large-banner640
The author of Cinnamon Toasted is back, with a new Spice Shop Mystery!

The Blurb

Piper Prescott, proprietor of Spice It Up!, has persuaded Doug Winters, the mild-mannered vet she’s been dating, to demonstrate Indian cuisine at her shop. But before Doug’s presentation of classic chicken curry is completed, Ned Feeney, local handyman, bursts in with news of a murder.

Sandy Granger, the director of a local production of Steel Magnolias, was found strangled in the third-floor balcony of the Brandywine Creek Opera House. Sandy, it seems, had not endeared herself to cast or crew. Complaints about her ran the gamut from her management style to her lack of people skills. Everyone connected with the production falls under suspicion, including Piper Prescott’s BFF, Reba Mae Johnson, who made it well known how unhappy she is that she was cut from the cast.

When the spotlight for the dastardly deed shines on Reba Mae, Piper rushes to her friend’s defense. Who among Sandy’s detractors was angry enough to wrap a silk scarf around her neck — and pull tight? Will Piper succeed in solving the case before she becomes the killer’s encore performance? And will she ever learn just how to prepare the perfect curry? As delicious as it is charming, the latest entry in Gail Oust’s mouth-watering Spice Shop Mysteries is sure to delight both old fans and new.

Alphabet Soup 2017 Reading Challenge

This challenge is hosted by Lori at Escape with Dollycas.

Alphabet Soup Challenge

from Lori

It’s an alphabet challenge!!! The challenge is to read one book that has a title starting with every letter of the alphabet. (Disregard the "A"s, "An"s, and "The"s from the beginnings of the titles.) The first Main word has the initial letter you are counting, except for those pesky Q, X and Z titles. The word that starts with Q, X and Z can be anywhere in the title.

This challenge will run from January 1st, 2017 until December 31st, 2017. You can join anytime. By December 31, your bowls must be full of one book for each letter of the Alphabet. Each Letter Counts As 1 Spoonful.

Make a page, or a post, or a GoodReads shelf where you will keep track of your spoonfuls. You do not have to post a review of the book. Books can come from any genre. Books can be read in any order and all formats — print, e-book, audio — are acceptable for this challenge! Crossovers to other challenges are allowed and encouraged!

A Minor Deception by Nupur Tustin | Blog Tour with Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

The Blurb

Kapellmeister Joseph Haydn would like nothing better than to show his principal violinist, Bartó Daboczi, the door. But with the Empress Maria Theresa’s visit scheduled in three weeks, Haydn can ill-afford to lose his surly virtuoso.

But when Bartó disappears — along with all the music composed for the imperial visit — the Kapellmeister is forced to don the role of Kapell-detective, or risk losing his job.

Before long Haydn's search uncovers pieces of a disturbing puzzle. Bartó, it appears, is more than just a petty thief — and more dangerous. And what seemed like a minor musical mishap could modulate into a major political catastrophe unless Haydn can find his missing virtuoso.

This challenge is hosted by Stormi at Books, Movies, Reviews. Oh My! and Barb at Booker T's Farm.

From Stormi:

This year Barb and I have decided to open up a facebook group for all of us who are addicted to mysteries, as we thought it would be fun to chat now and then about those mysteries we are reading. You read a really good one and want to give it a shout out, or if your curious to see what everyone is reading, or want to tease us with a tidbit from your current read, or just general chatter. 🙂 Here is the groups link:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/350512171977943/ It’s a closed group so just ask to join and we shall let you in. 🙂

Purrfect Reading Challenge 2017

The Purrfect Reading Challenge is hosted by Yvonne at Socrates' Book Reviews.

from Yvonne:

Many years ago I found a cat mystery reading challenge on one of the blogs. Being both a cat and mystery lover, it was the *purrfect* reading challenge for me but then it suddenly disappeared and I never saw one again. So, I decided to create my own. It's very simple, this challenge is all about reading mysteries that have cats as the main characters. Here are a few examples...

What an Animal 2017 Reading Challenge

from Yvonne:

Welcome to the 2017 What an Animal Reading Challenge. I began hosting this challenge in 2010, when I took it over from Kristi at Passion for the Page. I love reading books that feature animals and am going to host this one again. I hope you will join me.

Craving for Cozies 2017 Reading Challenge

Craving for Cozies 2017 Reading Challenge

This challenge is hosted by Lori at Escape with Dollycas.

Feed Your Need to Read Cozy Mysteries!

from Escape with Dollycas

Cozy mysteries, also referred to simply as “cozies”, are a sub-genre of crime fictionmysteries in which sex and violence are downplayed or treated humorously, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community. The crime solver is an amateur sleuth, usually but not always a woman, who is thrust into the aftermath of the murder. The protagonist frequently has an occupation or hobby that brings appealing information to the reader.

Cruisin' thru the Cozies 2017 Reading Challenge

Cruisin' thru the Cozies Reading Challenge is hosted by Yvonne at Socrates' Book Reviews.

from Yvonne:

Welcome to the seventh annual Cruisin' thru the Cozies Reading Challenge! I'm changing things up a bit this year. Sometimes we get hooked on one type of genre or sub-genre and don't venture out of our comfort zone. Maybe some only read culinary cozies, maybe some only animals or crafts.
