Cold As Ice by Julie Mulhern | Blog Tour with Guest Post and Giveaway

The Blurb

Ellison Russell’s life resembles a rollercoaster ride. And rollercoasters make her ill. Her daughter Grace has a crush on a boy Ellison doesn’t trust and she’s taken to hosting wild parties when Ellison goes out for the evening. Worse, the bank which represents Grace’s inheritance from her father may be in trouble.

When a meeting with the chef at the country club leads to the discovery of a body, Ellison can’t afford cold feet. She must save the bank, find the killer, and convince Grace (and herself) that powerful women don’t need men to rescue them.

The Guest Post

by Julie Mulhern

Someone recently asked me if I owned a Mr. Coffee.

I admitted that I do not. But added, “I have a relationship with Mr. Coffee’s cousin, Keurig.”

Ellison Russell, the heroine of the Country Club Murders, and I share a love of coffee and a love of boots (Best thing about autumn? Foliage and BOOTS). That said, Ellison and her coffee maker share a more personal relationship than I do with Keurig.

I thought I’d share an excerpt to illustrate…

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Her words said one thing, her tone told a different story. I was supposed to feel guilty. Very guilty. Tail-between-my-legs guilty. I’d stood up to her and now she had to drive halfway across the country to spend Thanksgiving with the good daughter.
“When are you leaving?”
She answered with silence. I’d failed to give her the right response (the right response would be me begging her not to go).
I examined my nails. I needed a manicure. I smiled at Mr. Coffee. He smiled back, as dependable as the sun rising in the east.
Mother sighed.
Despite my best efforts to keep undeserved guilt at bay, it pricked my conscience. I locked my jaw. I would not beg her to stay. Would not.
She waited a good ten seconds then sighed again. “We leave in the morning.”
I would not feel guilty. I would not. Oh dear Lord. I did. “Remember, Gwen will be here. You’ll have more fun at Marjorie’s.”
“Is Gwen staying with you?”
“Yes.” I got off my stool and stood next to Mr. Coffee. I needed him. His strength. His dependability. His coffee. And I needed to mollify Mother. At least a bit. “I need your advice.”
“Yes?”
“Gwen drinks tea.”
“And?”
“And I know nothing about tea.”

My question for you? Coffee or tea?

About Julie Mulhern

Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders. She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean -- and she's got an active imagination. Truth is -- she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
